Journey of Young Corona Warriors

This is a brief overview of Swarajya Vaidyakiya Sangh which has been providing selfless free services through various activities for the last 14 Months.

Swarajya Vaidyakiya Sangh, formed by like-minded medical students for selfless social services in the medical field, is familiar to all of us through various social service activities. However, during the Corona epidemic, the young doctors of the Sangh continued to work uninterruptedly in the Pune region for the last 14 months, despite the scarcity of resources available.

During Covid-19 disaster Swarajya Vaidyakiya Sangh served ON FIELD GROUND LEVEL in Pune including Bhavani Peth, Nana Peth, Tarachand Hospital Campus, Tilak Ayurveda College Campus, Shaniwarwada Campus, Narpatgiri Chowk, Pune Station Campus, Sinhagad Paytha, Erandwana, Parvati Campus in Pune. In many DARK RED ZONE areas, our students carried out their duty to reach out to the last section of the society and serve them regularly even at the risk of their own lives.

In addition to providing free medicines to the police, beggars, needy people and labourers, our young doctor’s continued to provide services ranging from providing meals to the needy labourers and hardworkers to distributing groceries to needy families, free first aid, Masks, Sanitizers and putting Corona Banners on various places for social awareness. Our young doctors have been providing services in all possible ways.

Our young doctors went to many villages and gave mental reassurance to those who had no one to care or the members of the family who were all affected by Corona and admitted them to the Covid Centers.

In the initial frightening stage of Corona and strict lockdown our students showed strength of strong mental will and the courage to serve day and night for 67 consecutive days (26 March to 31 May 2020). Even in scarcity of N95- PPE as well as when there were no enough equipment.

Today, with the support of our unwavering colleagues, this student body strives to stand on its own feet.

After the lockdown was relaxed in Pune, the food distribution services were reduced from June. Meanwhile the labourers started going to their respective villages when our young doctors guided the labourers on the medical certificates required to return to their hometowns.

Between June 2020 and October 2020, Doctors of Swarajya Vaidyakiya Sangh conducted primary health camps at various places in densely populated areas like Sinhagad foothills, Erandwana area, Parvati Bhag and also at several police stations in Pune, which included temperature and spo2 monitoring and distributing immunity booster ayurvedic medicines.

Also, our young doctors of Swarajya Vaidyakiya Sangh provided uninterrupted services in various covid centers, primary hospitals, covid care centers in sub-district and district hospitals.

Even after that, in Maharashtra around mid-February corona reappeared, Swarajya Vaidyakiya Sangh re-provided the previous services as required. Especially in this second wave, many of our young doctors served in covid center’s until the second wave subsided. More than half of the beggar brothers in mid-Pune got their first mask and sanitizer bottle from us.

We provided free medicines to 15,000 people, 5000 masks, and 2000 sanitizer bottles, 80 groceries to beggars and needy people. When the government reduced the intensity of the lockdown, we organised 155 free screening camps and people with raised temperatures, decreased SpO2, or other COVID symptoms were sent to the COVID care centre for further treatment.

Corona infection was prevented to some extent by finding Corona patients due to this screening camp. Our Doctors served endlessly regardless of self lives in more than 30 Covid Care centers and saved more than 70 lives. Covid awareness banners were placed in over 350 locations, reaching nearly 70,000 people and steps were taken for correcting misunderstandings spread directly or indirectly through social media.

Homeless people who were left alone and whose family members were COVID-positive were given medicine and meals, and those who needed hospitalisation were transferred. This initiative saved the lives of a minimum of 35 people.

While the country was in crisis, everyone was doing their part to lift this Govardhan, we have all been involved in this and we are definitely happy to have the opportunity to repay the debt of the society.

A tribute to the sincere contribution of all our young warriors who participated in this work against the backdrop of Corona, and a tribute to all the well-wishers!

We are very proud of all these volunteer doctors.

This whole journey of service has been very instructive and inspiring for us and it reminds us of a song that very politely describes our responsibilities as citizens.
